Army organizes free vety aid camp
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: A free veterinary aid camp was conducted by the Army at Nangtaw Kamti of Lohit yesterday where the 11 Mob FD Veterinary Hospital of Dao division of the Army with the assistance of 12 Assam Regiment treated all type of animals like elephant, cattle, goat, poultry, duck, pigs etc belonging to villagers.
A team of doctors from Army and Civil Vets and 10 dressers from 11 Mob FD Veterinary Hospital examined and treated the animals. Villages like Nangtaw Khamti, Balupatthar, Nangtaw Shyam, Doompatthar, Jasnapur have benefitted from camp.
Free check up, medicines, deworming and vaccines were provided to the livestock to prevent diseases.
The camp was conducted by Lt Col A Halder, OC 11 Mob FD Vet Hospital and Capt Nikhil Arora, Veterinary officer of the same unit with assistance of staff of state vet service.

Two houses gutted
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Two houses were gutted down in a fire accident on 25th of this month at Boasimla village under Lower Subansiri district. Informing this in a release Lower Subansiri District Nyishi Students Union (LSDNSU) claimed that properties which include local ornaments were destroyed and a baby was injured in the fire mishap.
The member of LSDNSU visited the fire victim and appealed concerned authority to compensate the victims.

Field demonstration on livestock and poultry health care

Army medical camp benefits over 700
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Over 700 civilians have benefited from the free medical camp organized by 12 Assam Regiment and 402 Field Hospital under the aegis of Headquarter 2 Mountain Division at Nangtaw Khamti village of Lohit district yesterday.
The patients were treated for various diseases, particularly diarrhea, respiratory
problems, fungal infections, malaria, viral fever, anemia and skin infections. Various
rapid laboratory tests as well ECG were conducted and children administered vaccination
during the day-

Five doctors and medical staff from Army under Commanding Officer 402 Field Hospital of Headquarter 2 Mountain Division and civil doctors and staff of CHC Piyong, Namsai and Tezu conducted the camp. People from the village took full advantage of the free medical camp.
The District Medical Officer and Gaon Bura Nangtaw Khamti village on behalf of the villagers and civil administration lauded the noble gesture of the ‘Army’ and expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the medical camp at their doorstep.

Experts suggest proper ways to save medicinal plants in state
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Arunachal Pradesh State Medicinal Plant Board Member Secretary T Gapak emphasized on the need of proper management and conservation of medicinal plants for the benefit of the communities and the state government by exploring and documenting the high value and traditionally useful species.
Attending the two days consultative meeting on training needs assessment and capacities of the agencies concerned in respect of threat assessment and CAMP (Conservation Assessment and Management Plan) exercise as part of GOI UNDP programme at NERIST on January 28, Gapak urged all the scientists to work jointly and make collaborative effort to save the rich diversity of medicinal plants, particularly the rare and endangered species like Coptis, Taxus, Rubia, Paris etc.
Dr. K Haridasan, the joint Director of Foundation for Revitalization of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT), Bangalore, gave details about the diversified forests and its important floristic elements, particularly emphasising the medicinal plants. He also focused the issues and constraints related to conservation which need to be worked out by the experts of the region.
Prof ML Khan, Department of Forestry also shared his views.
Earlier, Dr. PR Gajurel, Coordinator of the programme briefed the objectives of the meeting. Later, he gave an overview of present status of medicinal plants and threw light on the threats and challenges for medicinal plant conservation in the state during the consultative session.
Dr. BS Somashekhar, resource person from FRLHT provided all the technical details elaborating the process for formulation of long term strategy of conservation introducing the IUCN categories and Conservation Assessment and Management Plan (CAMP) exercise as a precursor to the capacity building.
Prof AK Das senior expert from RGU, who chaired the technical session, shared his long experience with the participants and provided some valuable inputs for assessment of threats of medicinal plants.
Prof. PRethy, Dr. LR Bhuyan, Dr. Hui Tag, Dr. SS Singh, Dr. LB Singha and other experts and participants from NERIST, RGU, ARRI, NEIST, TERI have provided their expert comments and thrown light on the capacities to work and join the programme for threat assessment in long term basis.
Dr. D Saha, FRLHT elaborated the details of the activity undertaken in the process of development of road map in the threat assessment involving the local experts of the state.
An extensive field tour was undertaken in the second day at VVK, Chessa and its adjacent forest for the demonstration of the assessment of population and collection of other important field information linked with the conservation of species.
Dr. Ravi Kumar from FRLHT, one of the leading taxonomists and field botanists of the country explained the process of data collection to the participants.
The presence of the renowned field taxonomist like Dr. K Haridasan, who worked for more then 20 year in the flora of the state along with Prof P Rethy, Dr. LR Bhuyan, Dr. PR Gajurel and others has made the field work very informative and successful.
The programme was organised by Dept of Forestry, NERIST in collaboration with Institute of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (IAIM), Foundation for Revitalization of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT), Bangalore.
About 40 participants comprising experts from NERIST, RGU, NEIST, RAAI, SFRI, APSMPB, TERI, DFOs from Forest Department and experts from FRLHT attended the meeting.

Special publicity campaign on H&FW in Lohit concludes
TEZU, Jan 30: Special Publicity Campaign on “Health & Family Welfare” by Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP), Tezu Unit concluded in Lohit district yesterday with a mega rally cum awareness programme at Hatiduba village.
Over 300 women, anganwari workers, ASHAs, youths and villagers as well as Panchayat members joined the the rally cum awareness programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. W Anand Singh, Senior Medical Officer, PHC, Sunpura explained the gathering about Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) earlier known as Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and advised them to get the benefit of the scheme. of two weeks for filing counter affidavit regarding the case. The court, following
prayer made by the learned counsel on September 19, 2012 again allowed for two weeks
as the counsel for APIC could not file affidavit-

The petitioner dismayed over the delay in justice. China to construct three more dams on Brahmaputra river
BEIJING, Jan 30: China has approved construction of three more dams on Brahmaputra river in Tibet in addition to the one being built, and much to the disquiet of India, it has not been informed about the plans so far.
A document approved by the Chinese cabinet recently mentioned three dams to be built at Dagu, Jiacha and Jiexu on Brahmaputra, Indian officials here said.
The document listing projects to be completed in China's 12th five year plan made a passing reference to the three dams without any details, they said.
India has not been informed about the move so far, officials said.
Asked about the plans to build the dams, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a media briefing here that "China has always taken a responsible attitude towards the development of cross border rivers".
"Any new project has to go through scientific planning and study with consideration of the interests of lower and upper stream countries", he said.
Brahmaputra river is known as as Yarlung Zangbo in China. Asked whether plans to build the dams have been approved and whether India and Bangladesh, which were lower riparian countries of the river, have been informed, Hong said he needs to get specific information.
Beijing's decision comes at a time when India-
Sharing of cross border river waters has figured in the discussions but apparently China has not informed India of its plans to build the dams.
In his interactions with media after the talks, Menon has spoken about the two sides discussing water flows and China assurance that nothing what it is doing will affect the flows.
The two again met on the sidelines of BRICS security officials meet this month in New Delhi.
The new projects were reportedly approved by China at the State Council or Cabinet meeting on January 23.
China has already been building a 510 MW dam at Zangmu and one of the three dams were reportedly bigger than this.
China has been arguing that its dams are run of the river designs, therefore would not be affecting the flows of the water.
India has been expressing its concerns on this issue during the bilateral meetings.
It figured during the external affairs minister S M Krishna's visit in last March.
About India's concerns about Zangmu dam, Hong said at that time that the dam was not big enough to affect much of the flow to the lower riparian regions and China has not developed new hydro projects on the river. PTI

The findings of the research give a grim picture, showing a state where many of the elderly in India living unsatisfied lives full of insecurity and loneliness. Seventy per cent of seniors want to move out of town into a home of their own and 42 per cent seniors rank security among the top 3 requirements from a living space. While more than 80 per cent of senior people seek to sustain lifestyle or improve it as they do not wish to “retire” and more than 75 per cent expressed the want to be more active by wanting to socialise, club, party, exercise, play sports and shop luxury goods.
India had 98 million elderly citizens, and this is expected to grow to 118 million senior citizens by 2016 as average life expectancy will cross 70 years by then.
Such research should be consulted for policy changes where the elderly are concerned. With such a large population of the senior persons, India needs to step up to take more care of its senior citizens.

Daporijo Fire Service needs urgent revamp
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to focus some points regarding the Fire Service at Daporijo town. Daporijo is popularly known as the fire town because it witnesses fire incidents quite frequently. A month does not pass when Daporijo town does not witness fire accident. In this month of January numerous cases of fire has been recorded at Daporijo town.
Most interesting is that, there is only one fire service vehicle and often it fails to face the worst situation. Whenever any fire accident occurs, there arrives only one fire service vehicle. Many a times the vehicle goes back in the midst of fire surprising many people present. When I enquired about it, one person said “GARI KA TANKY ME PANI KHATAM HO GAYA, AUR PANI BARNE GAYA”. Then the fire service vehicle goes for filling the tank. To fill the tank it takes at least 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, you know better what happens; the entire house or colony gets burnt up. So only to douse the ashes and burnt up materials, the fire service vehicle comes back. “Woh! What a marvelous work render by the fire service department.”
Despite repeated occurrence of fire accident, there is only one Fire Service Vehicle. “Why the other vehicle is not repaired? Whether it is not reparable? Are fire service department waiting for major fire accident and loses of life to take place? Are they waiting for public to reiterate and revolt? Are District Administration ready to take full responsibility of the accident, damage and breakdown of law and order problem?
